Anchor Line

I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come?

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Answers to some questions are often very hard to try and answer!

  • Why are we here?
  • What purpose does my life serve?
  • Why was their life cut so short?
  • Why does that parent have to care for their children alone?
  • Why do people who appear to make evil choices seem to prosper?
  • Why does war never seem to end?

We may never know the answers to these and other difficult questions in this life.  We need to consider what anchors our life?

What gives us assurance and confidence?

When our boys were young and when I taught young children, I loved to fly kites with the children.  Many kites are colorful spectacles as they sail high above the ground, they appear to reach unlimited heights as they dip and weave and glide and bounce in the wind.  From a distance, they appear to be drifting freely, but they are not unless something has broken.  A taut string, almost invisible against the sky keeps the kite from crashing to the ground or becoming entangled in the branches of a tree.

Our hopes, visions and dreams in this life are often like the kite. They lift and soar to new heights as we dream big dreams and think about what ifs!  Sometimes, our dreams come crashing down around us when they are not safely anchored in faith held in the palm of God’s hand.  When we allow ourselves to be anchored in God and God’s Word, when the dips and weaves of life happen, we know who is holding us aloft.  We are never alone when we trust in God.

In God’s Love,

Pastor Judy
